Everyone Orchestra Delivering Raging Music & Bad Sweaters Dec. 17

Interactive, improvisational experience, The Everyone Orchestra is taking it to the East bay for a night of raging music, good vibes, and bad sweaters, Sunday, December 17 at Ashkenaz.  This edition of the rotating cast of all star musicians includes EO founder/conductor Matt Butler, plus Dan Lebowitz of ALO, Trevor Garrod of Tea Leaf Green, Hot Buttered Rum’s Aaron Redner and Eric Yates, Dave Watts and Garrett Sayers of The Motet, the golden pipes of Audio Angel and  P-Funk’s Kim Manning, and more.  Magic Gravy, a trio featuring the above mentioned Lebowitz, Watts and Sayers, opens the night.

Everyone is encouraged to sport a ridiculously cheesy holiday sweater to help push the good vibes!

What makes Everyone Orchestra music stand out from other jamband collaborations is the conducting and audience participation. EO founder/conductor Matt Butler facilitates the jams using giant cue cards, hand signals and more, which direct the musicians and audience alike in flowing, playful and incredibly dynamic co-creations.

The list of Everyone Orchestra alumni reads like a who’s who of jamband music and beyond including members of The Grateful Dead, Phish, moe., String Cheese Incident, Derek Trucks Band, Railroad Earth, and Jimmy Herring, Darol Anger, Adrian Belew, Taj Mahal, Maria Muldaur among a growing legion of other performers.  Butler’s version of breaking down the barriers between musician and audience derives in part from desert art festival Burning Man’s ‘no spectators, only participants’ ethic and is undoubtedly influenced by his old friend and mentor Ken Kesey, the king of the Merry Pranksters.

Supporting Everyone Orchestra’s commitment to activism, non-profit Conscious Alliance will be staging a toy and donation drive.  Concert attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift (value $10 and under) or make a donation to Conscious Alliance.  The first 100 who do so will receive an original, limited edition, poster by Ryan Kerrigan.  Please join us as we create some holiday spirit and push the good vibe towards those less fortunate!

Embracing the colorful tradition and presenting a different aspect of the ”Everyone” in Everyone Orchestra, local live painters from will join the Orchestra to paint the scene live as it unfolds. These paintings will be available for sale at the end of each show, with a portion of the proceeds donated to Conscious Alliance.

“For one night in the Bay Area we’re going to push the boundaries of the conducting and see how far we can take it.”
— EO founder/conductor, Matt Butler
