The Roots have unveiled world tour plans including their first-ever trip to South Africa.
The group, which is up for two Grammys, will head to South Africa after finishing an ongoing U.K. leg. Instead of playing traditional venues, the band will perform on flatbed trucks in neighborhoods in Johannesburg, Capetown and Durban.
They’ll head for Japan in January, playing three shows in Tokyo, two in Osaka and one in Nagoya.
Next, they’ll launch a North American tour that will span more than two months. The trek will begin with two shows at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C., February 1-2. Lupe Fiasco is on board for several dates including a February 10 pre-Grammy concert at the Gibson Amphitheatre that will also feature Jill Scott.
The Roots will cover the continent throughout February and March, wrapping with another two-night stand at home in Philadelphia April 3-4 at Kimmel Center.
Three days later, they’ll be in Byron Bay, Australia, for the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival, followed by dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
