Bassnectar: Underground Communication

[rating=3.00]

Bassnectar’s Underground Communication will be speaking loud and clear to anyone who is listening carefully for a musically diverse album that begs the spine to move in incomprehensible ways. For the last few years, Bassnectar has been acting as the host of countless late night dance parties around the nation. In this album he has done a great job of encapsulating his live vibe into a tightly produced package.

Underground Communication has successfully melded Lorin’s signature bass driven barrage of sound with a danceable tapestry of electronica. He expertly balances a blend of vocals tracks, with driving drum beats, as well as some well placed scratched and distorted sounds. There are elements of hip hop, funk, tribal rhythms,  and even subtle hints of other styles of music scattered throughout the album. He also brings along some talented friends to add their skills to the mix, such as Seasunz, Persia, Souleye, Nibu and KristinaMaria.

There is so much organized chaos flowing through this album, that it is a wonder that it is able to congeal as easily as it does into a fluid mix of sound. Yet all songs seem to always reverberate on the one with the burning and churning baselines that permeate the groove. Throw Underground Communication in at a late night party, move all breakable objects to a safe location, and watch an impromptu dance party break out.
