It’s quite possible that over the course of the last 40 years, on every college campus across the country the following question was posed late one night between two stoned kids in their dorm room – “Hey man, what if the Dead covered Stairway?” Well, while Jerry & Co. never attempted to put their stamp, on arguably one of the most iconic tunes in rock history, last Sunday night at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom, Phil Lesh & Friends finally answered that question when they ignored the sign hanging backstage, and dropped their take on the tune in the midst of their most iconic tune – Dark Star.
With the help of Stanley Jordan on guitar and vocals, Lesh and his latest iteration of his rotating & Friends band, laid downed a very Dead-inspired on the classic Zep tune. Let’s check it out…
Phil Lesh & Friends continue their New York City-area tour tonight, with a gig at the recently reopened Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York.

I’m sorry… being a guitar player for 25 years and obviously covering this song to the note back in my teens…..
Stanley Jordan ruins any rock song I’ve seen him sit in with. He screws the timing up always. He’s incredible, but has no ear to play with a “full” band.
