Rolling Stones Close Isle of Wight Festival – Their First UK Festival Since ’76

The Rolling Stones closed the Isle Of Wight Festival 2007 Sunday night (June 10) with their much anticipated headlining performance.

Playing their first UK festival since 1976’s Knebworth Fair, the band brought their full live set to Seaclose Park, even adding a giant runway to the stage that ran deep into the heart of the crowd – and Mick Jagger and co were certainly in the mood to put on a show.

Despite taking the stage after a short delay, the band immediately made up for the wait by opening with ‘Start Me Up’.

"I think we’re the 24th act you’ve seen this weekend," Jagger
told the crowd. "That’s a lot of acts! I hope you’ve got something left in the tank, you have!"

He added: "It feels great, we haven’t played a festival in ages. This one is very nice and it’s very clean."

The singer then joked with the crowd: "I found it very expensive though. Two quid for water, four quid for a burger and then a dog ate my dope!"

The band then tore through a series of classics including ‘Tumbling Dice’, ‘Jumping Jack Flash’ and ‘Brown Sugar’.

The Rolling Stones also invited two acts who had played the Isle Of Wight Festival this weekend to join them for guest spots.

Paolo Nutini – who toured with the veterans last year – played on ‘Love In Vain’, while Amy Winehouse, who played the festival herself yesterday (June 9), returned to the site to sing on a cover of ‘The Temptations‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’.

After playing two Keith Richards fronted numbers ‘Wanna Hold You’ and ‘Slipping Away’, the band then made the most of their extra stage performing ‘Miss You’, ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ and ‘Honky Tonk Women’ at the end of their runway right up by the crowd barrier.

They then returned to the main stage to wrap up the show to thunderous applause.

The Rolling Stones played:
