Shirley Manson recently lamented the lack of excitement and eclecticism in modern female pop and rock music. Ironically, though, 2013 music has been dominated by females (from Neko Case to Miley Cyrus).

The staff here at Glide as usual had a hell of year narrowing down our picks for the best albums of 2013. After critiquing every significant release and deciding whether some releases might be too pop or others not fitting of the band’s strongest efforts, it all still comes down to the best of the year.

Aims takes an introvert and thrusts her into extroverted waters. In a live setting, a few of the songs from the new record lacked the epic trappings they wore in the studio. Still, this tour shows Teng at her most musically adventurous.
