Metallica Names New Bass Player
Robert Trujillo has been named the new bass player of Metallica, replacing Jason Newstead who left the band to pursue other projects. The hazing that Newstead received when he replaced Cliff Burton in 1986 was ongoing and is well documented; one could only hope James, Kirk and Lars take it easy on their new four string monster. Trujillo has played previously with Ozzy Osbourne, Suicidal Tendencies and Jerry Cantrell. Metallica and Trujillo will be hitting the road as headliners of the Summer Sanitarium stadium tour with Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones and Mudvayne. The band’s new album, “St. Anger” is due on June 10.

Great White Concert Tragedy In RI
In a week that already saw tragedy inside a Chicago nightclub, pyrotechnics and fireworks started a deadly fire inside a West Warwick, RI nightclub, called The Station has claimed up to 96 lives and numerous burn victims. 80’s metal band Great White, best known for their hit cover of Ian Hunter’s “Once Bitten Twice Shy” , were playing that evening and used fireworks and other pyrotechnics during the show that are believed to have started the inferno. The fire spread so quickly, people simply didn’t have enough time to exit. Ty Longley, guitarist for Great White is listed among the missing.

Simon and Garfunkel Reunion??
Crazier things have happened, like Hanson playing with Ratdog, but there are rumors floating around that Simon & Garfunkel might reconvene with a future concert tour. The two will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Grammy Awards which has sparked talk of a possible reunion. London’s Evening Standard reported that negotiations were underway between the duo and its representatives for an extended world trek. The duo split as a performing combo in 1970 and regrouped for their famous Concert at Central Park in 1981. Tour or no tour one thing is certain…. ticket prices will be outrageously expensive.
