100 years ago today (12/22/21), the late country music pioneer Hawkshaw Hawkins was born. The tall and sharply dressed Hawkins spent time w with Columbia and RCA Records where his smooth vocal delivery made an impression, Hawkins oined the Grand Ole Opry and scored his biggest hit “Lonesome 7-7203”. Everything ended too soon as Hawkins died at age 41 in the 1963 plane crash that also killed country stars Patsy Cline and Cowboy Copas.
