12 years ago today (5/19/04) at Otto’s in Dekalb, IL,(setlist below) Wilco played their first show at with a new lineup that included two new musicians (Nels Cline and Pat Sansone) and a former touring musician (Mikael Jorgensen) who officially became a band member. Multi-instrumentalist Leroy Bach left the band after the recording sessions to join a theater production, so Wilco added seasoned jazz guitarist Nels Cline and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone to replace him. Sansone had previously played with Wilco bassist John Stirratt in a side project titled The Autumn Defense. Then of course Jeff Tweedy and drummer Glenn Kotche rounded out the lineup that still stands solid today. The following month in June, 2014 Wilco would go onto release their fifth studio album A Ghost Is Born, regarded by fans as one of their strongest to date. Watch the new lineup perform on national television for the first time as they tackle “Hummingbird” live on Letterman on 6/16/04.
