22 Years Ago Today- Wilco Releases Debut LP A.M. (Watch “Box Full of Letters” Live ’95)

22 years ago today (3/28/95), Wilco released their debut LP A.M, the first and last Wilco album to feature Brian Henneman (Bottle Rockets) on lead guitar who was brought into the recording sessions. The album was released only months after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo. Uncle Tupelo’s last album, Anodyne, featured a new lineup for the band — a five-piece outfit with drummer Ken Coomer, bassist John Stirratt, and multi-instrumentalist Max Johnston. Only days after the breakup, Tweedy decided to form a new group and was able to retain the lineup of Uncle Tupelo sans Farrar, and then Wilco was born. Although not considered Wilco’s greatest record triumph, it still contains many fan favorites including “Passenger Side” and “Casino Queen.”  Watch Wilco perform “Box Full of Letters”  off A.M. live in 1995 on Conan O’Brien.
