25 years ago today (11/24/98), Metallica released the compilation album Garage Inc. Serving as a return to the band’s heavier roots of sorts, following the short hair eyeliner Load alt rock years, the album features covers by Discharge, Diamond Head, Misfits, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Mercyful Fate and Blue Oyster Cult. Two surprising covers featured the radio classic rock sounds of Bob Seger (“Turn The Page”) and Lynyrd Skynyrd (“Tuesdays Gone”). Garage Inc.” also features the Garage Days Re-Revisited EP, which was originally released in 1987. This would also be the last studio album to feature Jason Newsted on bass.
