25 Years Ago Today – Phish Released ‘Farmhouse’ Album

Twenty-five years ago today (5/16/00), Phish released their ninth studio album, Farmhouse. One of their most direct song-oriented studio statements, no track surpassed 6:45 in length (the final track, “First Tube”). Some of the Farmhouse material had debuted on Trey Anastasio’s 1999 solo tour with Russ Lawton and Tony Markelis (“Gotta Jibboo” “Heavy Things”, “Sand” “First Tube”), while others appear on tour in the years prior including “Piper”, “Dirt,” “Twist” and “Bug.” Much of Farmhouse was recorded at The Barn, guitarist Trey Anastasio’s studio in Vermont, given the inspiration behind the album’s title. Watch Phish debut the title track on Conan O’Brien in 1997..
