Small in height but huge in voice, singer/guitarist Steve Marriott was one of rock’s greatest voices, despite flying under the radar of Rod Stewart, Roger Daltrey and Mick Jagger. Yet, 30 years ago today (4/20/91)Marriott died tragically at age 44 when a fire, thought to have been caused by a cigarette, started in his bedroom while he was asleep. Marriott is best known for his powerful voice in bands Small Faces (1965–1969) and Humble Pie (1969–1975 and 1980–1981). Marriott was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces. Check out Humble Pie in all their glory performing their classic “I Don’t Need No Doctor”..
