30 Years Ago Today – Soundgarden Releases Breakthrough ‘Badmotorfinger’ LP

30 years ago today (10/8/91), Soundgarden released their third studio LP Badmotorfinger at the height of the grunge movement – although often mistakenly credited with a release date of 9/24/91. The singles “Outshined” and “Rusty Cage” dominated hard rock radio and found the band opening for Guns N’ Roses on their Use Your Illusion tour. In 1992, Badmotorfinger was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. Badmotorfinger was the first Soundgarden album with bassist Ben Shepherd, which help offer a more dynamic low end. Watch Soundgarden tear up “Room A Thousand Years Wide” off Badmotorfinger live in 1992.
