30 Years Ago Today -The Black Crowes Released Debut LP ‘Shake Your Money Maker’ (Watch “Twice As Hard” Video)

30 years ago today (2/13/90), The Black Crowes unleashed one of rock’s most successful debuts- Shake Your Money Maker. Just prior to the grunge/alternative explosion and just as the hair metal scene was about to be killed off, The Black Crowes fit somewhere in between both but with a soulful nod to the Stones and Faces and shades of jangly college rock and southern rock. While their followup Southern Harmony Musical Companion would be their strongest album, Shake Your Money Maker, named after a classic blues song written by Elmore James, vaulted to the top of the charts with the first single, a cover of Otis Redding’s Hard to Handle.  Other charting singles included: She Talks to Angels”,  “Jealous Again”, “Twice As Hard” and “Seeing Things.” Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson will be touring the states in a newly reformed version of the Black Crowes (no other original members) this summer performing Shake Your Money Maker in its entirety. Check out the brothers in their MTV heyday in this official video for “Twice as Hard”…
