30 Years Ago Today- Tool Release Full-Length Debut Album ‘Undertow’

30 years ago today (4/9/93), Tool released their debut full-length album Undertow. As one of the first bands rooted in metal but turning it into a grungier form with hints of prog rock, Tool captured ears with their first single “Sober,” which led the band to land a spot on the big stage on the Lollapalooza 1993 tour. Maynard James Keenan’s acrobatic and vulnerable vocals gave Tool a liberating voice in the mainstream alt-rock revolution as Tool’s follow-ups would earn the band one of rock’s most devoted followings.
