35 years ago today (5/8/89), Phish released their official debut studio LP Junta. Originally released on cassette only, the album was self-released by the band in May 1989 without the support from a record label and received a wider release when Elektra Records reissued it on compact disc in 1992. The album contains numerous of Phish’s most “epic” live songs that form the foundation of their live sets to this day, including” “You Enjoy Myself,” “Divided Sky,” “Fluffhead,” and “David Bowie.” Check out the live odd bonus track jam “Union Federal” – one that Phish has yet to play live since.
