40 years ago today (7/28/80), the true American funk band Zapp released their self-titled debut LP. Featuring a foray into the electro funk that would be later perfected by Prince, along with use of a talk box, Zapp was a rather large ensemble and was their new Funkadelic. In fact,, Zapp also worked closely with George Clinton and Bootsy Collins of Parliament-Funkadelic during its early stages and served as an influence to the west coast hip-hop G Funk sound.
