40 Years Ago Today – Prince Makes Live Debut at Minneapolis’ Capri (Listen To “For You”)

40 years ago today (1/5/79),  Prince made his live debut at the Capri in Minneapolis to a non sold out crowd of 300 fans, family members and friends. Although there is little documentation about the show, only the songs “For You,” “Soft And Wet,” “So Blue” and “Just As Long As We’re Together” were verified. That band comprised André Cymone on bass, Dez Dickerson on guitar, Gayle Chapman and Doctor Fink on keyboards, and Bobby Z on drums. According to Per Nilsen, in his book Prince: The First Decade, they seemed to have turned up for a dress rehearsal rather than a concert, in spandex, leg warmers and high heels. Prince wore jeans, leg warmers, a vest, a blouse and a raincoat. Listen to “For You” from Prince’s first album of the same name.
