40 Years Ago Today- The Cars Release Second LP ‘Candy O’ (Watch “Dangerous Type” Live)

40 years ago today (6/13/79), The Cars released their second LP Candy O. Renowned for its original pinup cover art by artist Alberto Vargas, the album featured the Top 20 hit “Let’s Go” and the minor hit “It’s All I Can Do.” Working with producer Roy Thomas Baker, the album would help The Cars steer their then-unique sound of guitar-oriented rock with the new synthesizer-oriented pop towards bigger masses that would hit huge climatic popularity with 1984’s Heartbreak City. Watch The Cars perform “Dangerous Type” from Candy O live.
