40 years ago today (7/8/81), Go-Go’s released their debut LP Beauty and the Beat. This 11 song recording reached #1 in the US, becoming the first by an all-girl band to do so, and featured the Hot 100 hit singles: “Our Lips Are Sealed” (no. 20) and perhaps the Go-Go’s’ signature song, “We Got the Beat.” Things worked out pretty well for this inventive five-piece as in October of 2021, the band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
