40 Years Ago Today – The Power Station Releases Debut Album (Watch “Get It On” Live Aid 1985)

40 years ago today (3/24/85), The Power Station released their debut album. Featuring a “supergroup” collaboration featuring Robert Palmer on vocals, John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar) of Duran Duran, and Tony Thompson of Chic on drums. The album mixed rock, funk, and pop, characterized by its heavy drums, powerful guitar riffs, and Palmer’s blue-eyed soul vocals. Notable tracks include “Some Like It Hot” and their cover of T. Rex’s “Get It On (Bang a Gong),” both of which became major hits and helped launch Palmer’s more commercially successful solo career that would soon follow with his album Riptide.
