40 years ago today (6/25/81), The Replacements released their debut LP Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash on Twin/Tone Records. The album would signify a brash punk sound that would later dissolve on the Minneapolis’ band’s later melodic mid to late 80’s alt-rock inventions. Bassist Tommy Stinson was only 14 when this debut was released and frontman Paul Westerberg was musically on the belligerent side.
