48 Years Ago Today – The Band Release Debut LP ‘Music From Big Pink’ (Watch “Tears of Rage” Live at Woodstock)

48 years ago today (7/1/68) The Band released their debut album Music From Big Pink. The album, which features their first hit single “The Weight,” and timeless others like “Tears of Rage,” “Chest Fever” “I Shall Be Released” and “We Can Talk” was recorded in studios in New York and Los Angeles in 1968, and followed the group’s backing of Bob Dylan on his 1966 tour (as The Hawks). Watch the late great Richard Manuel sing lead vocals on “Tears of Rage” live at Woodstock/1969.
