50 years ago today (11/4/70), David Bowie released his first true entry into guitar rock with his third studio LP The Man Who Sold The World. This hard rock shifter features the first appearances of guitarist Mick Ronson and drummer Mick Woodmansey on a Bowie record, who would later become the core members of Bowie’s band the Spiders from Mars. The title track reignited in popularity with help from Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance, while others hail many of the other songs to the birth of glam rock. Check out the second song “All the Madmen,” that described the “world so bereft of reason that the last sane men are the ones in the asylums”.
