50 years ago today (8/2/71), Frank Zappa and The Mothers released the live LP Fillmore East – June 1971. Before Zappa and Co. released albums by the hundreds, Fillmore East was a standby live document of Zappa in one of “more” prolific artistic stages. Although this live document contained some regular Zappa live staples (“Peaches En Regalia,” “Willie the Pimp”) it t portrays a peek-behind-the-curtain of the life of a rock band on the road as narrated by Zappa. Band members at this point included Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan of The Turtles and Aynsley Dunbar.
