Fifty years ago today (11/11/74), Sparks released their fourth album, Propaganda. The album emerged after Kimono My House, which made a big splash in the UK, solidifying Sparks’ trajectory with a devoted following, particularly in Europe. Propaganda incorporated baroque pop and art rock from the Mael brothers, pushing genre boundaries that resonated well with the progressive and punk crowds alike. It can typically be found in the top five in any Best of Sparks album lists—and they have a lot of albums, indeed.
