50 Years Ago Today – Woody Guthrie Dies From Huntington’s Disease (Listen Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie Live ’40)

50 years ago today (10/3/67), Woody Guthrie died after suffering from Huntington’s Chorea disease. Guthrie was a major influence on Bob Dylan and American folk music. The 70’s film ‘Bound For Glory’ is based on his life. His best-known song is ‘This Land Is Your Land’, which is regularly sung in American schools and is well known for his lyrics being used by Wilco and Billy Bragg for Mermaid Avenue Volumes 1 and 2.
