75 Years Ago Today- The Late Ace Frehley Was Born

75 years ago today (4/27/51), the late Ace Frehley was born. Few guitarists are as instantly recognizable—both visually and sonically—as Ace Frehley. Ace Frehley joined KISS in the early ’70s, stepping into the role of the “Spaceman”—silver makeup, a futuristic edge, and a stage presence that leaned more toward cool detachment than over-the-top theatrics. While bandmates like Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley worked the crowd with bombast, Frehley often hung back, letting his guitar carry the weight.

And it carried plenty. His solos on tracks like “Shock Me,” “Cold Gin,” and “Deuce” are raw, blues-rooted, and sharply melodic—never flashy for the sake of it, but always sticking with you. Frehley had a rare ability to turn a solo into a hook, making his lead work just as memorable as the songs themselves. Ace passed away in October of 2025, following complications from a fall.
