80 years ago today (4/18/43), the late drummer Clyde Stubblefield perhaps the funkiest drummer of ’em all, who was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Stubblefield, was played on many of James Brown’s most recognized recordings, and helped lay the beat on funk standards that would later become hip hop samples: “Say It Loud – I’m Black and I’m Proud” and “Cold Sweat.” Stubblefield passed away at age 73 in 2017, yet his music lives on in a variety of genres. Listen to Stubblefield knock it out on “Cold Sweat”/”Ride the Pony” live…
