80 years ago today – the late Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac was born (7/12/43). Even die-hard Fleetwood Mac fans forget (or never knew) that the English-born McVie was part of the band’s first incarnation as a British blues act, whose intermittent success and ever-changing lineup prevented them from widespread success. McVie- always the cool one hung through Fleetwood Mac through the ups and downs, until the band hit payday in the mid-‘70s with a reinvention that brought Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks on board. Of course, the very real and very substantial contributions that Christine McVie made to the group’s success helped make the band one of the biggest ever, and Rumors is still charting even today. McVie sadly passed away last November of 2022. Watch McVie perform “Over My Head” from Tusk live in the late ’70s on the Midnight Special.
