Although he hardly looks it, Wilco guitarist and all-around free jazz/avant-garde/improvisational/guitar wunderkind Nels Cline was born 65 years ago today on 1/4/56. Although most people know Cline for his role as a member of Wilco, with whom he joined as lead guitarist in 2004, Cline has performed on over 150 albums in the jazz, pop, rock, country, and experimental pop music genres. This vast number of collaborations include most notably Mike Watt and Thurston Moore, along with leading the groups the Nels Cline Singers and Nels Cline Trio. Watch Cline perform with the Nels Cline Singers in 2010 from NPR’s 2010 Tiny Desk Concert.
