Happy 75th Birthday today to Carlos Santana (born 7/20/47). The lead guitarist has poured soaring cosmic leads with his band Santana, while earning a handful of chart-topping singles. Santana delivers a “tonal nirvana” quite unlike any other guitarist, easily identifiable as only him. Santana recorded his first album and played a legendary acid-fueled Woodstock set that remains one of rock’s pinnacle sets, and Abraxas became one of the best-sounding and sounding LPs of 1970 with hits “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va.” Watch Santana’s performance at Tanglewood 8/18/70.
