Happy 80th birthday today to Byrds founder, vocalist, and guitarist Roger McGuinn who was born on 7/13/42. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer helped pioneer a sound that directly influenced hundreds if not thousands including Tom Petty. McGuinn developed two innovative and very influential styles of electric guitar playing – the “jingle-jangle” and the psychedelic free jazz tone first heard on “Eight Miles High.” Despite the departure of many of the well-known Byrds members in the late 60s, McGuinn still was the glue of the band and kept the train rolling, including this smokin’ show at The Fillmore East in 1970…
