Quinn DeVeaux & the Blue Beat Review may not be a household name yet, but the Oakland-based group has been gaining fans with the 2013 release of their full-length album Originals.
Following an extensive fall tour, the group just dropped a fun new video for “Left This Town.” The song is the perfect introduction to band’s modern soul sound that blends elements of R&B, country, and funk to compliment DeVeaux’s smooth tenor. The song itself is about leaving the hectic life of the big city behind and heading out to the countryside for a little peace and quiet. The video was shot in one continuous take in Bird’s Landing, California, with DeVeaux and his crew of dancers and instrumentalists becoming increasingly exuberant as they make their trek further down the road.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind “Left This Town” the soul singer says he “always had this vision of leaving the city in a huff. Just leaving it all behind and taking to the road unsure of what lies ahead. Not a dime in your pocket. Well, maybe a dime.”
