10 years ago today (2/2/11), The White Stripes officially announced they had broken up. After 13 years and six studio albums, the garage rock duo that helped spurn a rock revival around the turn of the century had said they are calling it a day and remains on the top of the list for most wanted rock reunions. In a statement at the time, Jack and Meg White, the drummer, and Jack’s ex-wife, said they were going separate ways for a “myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band” and not “due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues.” Watch the Willy Wonka of rock and his sister? tear it up at Glastonbury 2005..
