Video: The Staves – Facing West

In my SXSW preview one of the bands that I was hoping to catch in Austin was the London-based sister-act The Staves. The trio, who I didn’t get to check out, are looking to build on the trend of folkie British exports that have captured the attention of music fans in the states. The Staves, who plays an enchanting brand of wispy folk highlighted by their gorgeous three-part harmonies, got some heavyweight help from behind the boards for the their album Dead & Born & Grown.

The twelve-track effort was produced by the formidable father-son duo of Glyn and Ethan Johns, whose resumes read like a who’s who of the history of rock – with Glyn working with the likes of The Beatles, The Band and Bob Dylan, while Ethan worked with the likes of Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne and Laura Marling. This is the first time the duo have ever worked together on a record.

The trio’s album recently got its U.S. release via Atlantic Records, and have marked the occasion with a music video for the track Facing West. Let’s check it out…

The Staves will cross the pond for a 24-date tour that kicks off in Philadelphia on May 15.
