Nas & Damian Marley Collaborating At Camp Bisco

Continuing the tradition of onstage collaborations; Camp Bisco VIII, the eighth annual three-day music and arts festival in Mariaville, New York this July 16-18, 2009 will play host to one of it’s most eclectic pairings yet, when Nas & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley take the stage together. The two have worked together before on ‘Road to Zion’, the second single from Marley’s breakthrough Grammy award winning third album, “Welcome to Jamrock.”  This summer will see them expanding upon that collaboration as they showcase tracks from their forthcoming album along with a few of their own originals with Damian’s live band.
The news of “Distant Relative,” slated for an early June release, has Camp Bisco fans enthused by the prospect of seeing these two legends on stage together.  The combination of Nas and Marley may seem strange at first, but the son of Jamaican music legend Bob Marley and the legendary NYC rapper share a common ideology when it comes to music.  Damian has created his own identity and legendary status with a type of reggae that borrows heavily from both dancehall and hip-hop.  Past collaborations with such rappers as Method Man, Red Man, and Snoop Dogg (who performed at last summer’s annual Camp Bisco event), make Nas a logical next step on his musical path.

Camp Bisco has always been a culturally eclectic festival with a very diverse musical lineup. Past performers have included: Snoop Dogg, Thievery Corporation, Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, MSTRKRFT, The Roots, Infected Mushroom, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9), Shpongle, Younger Brother, Brazilian Girls, Girl Talk, Bassnectar, and !!!. This year’s lineup is no different, including: The Disco Biscuits – All 3 Nights; Nas & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley; STS9 (2 nights); DFA Disco Tent; Twisted Records All Star Tent; Chromeo; Dr. Dog; K’Naan; The Orb; Younger Brother; Special Disco Version James Murphy & Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem; Flying Lotus; Pretty Lights; Shpongle; EOTO; Holy Ghost; Orchard Lounge; John Brown’s Body; Telepath; Boombox; Martyn, BioDiesel with KJ Sawka; AC Slater; Phantogram; MO2; DJ Haitian; Fort Knox Five; Kill the Noise; Prometheus; Ott; Starkey; Bluetech; Indobox; Roots of Creation; Joe Nice; Tuphace; Otherwise; Dirty Paris and more.
