Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Philco Does Ripple

While the left coast waits for Barack Obama to do his best Bill Graham impersonation, we turn our attention to the 1999 Mountain Air Festival…

Scotty dug up this video over the weekend, and while we’re currently heavy on all things Phil Lesh, the clip’s too cool not to publish this afternoon. Wilco, sounding more akin to its actual alt-country days, invited the former Grateful Dead bassist on stage to join the group in a round of Ripple. I used the word “cool” there because it’s far from “excellent,” something that should have been apparent when Phil walked on stage without his bass. Phil on guest vocals?! Yahtzee. But the collaboration is worth noting, and well worth watching, if for nothing else than to remind yourself what a clean-cut Jeff Tweedy looks like. Gander, take one:

Is it really that much to ask to get Tweedy involved in an “& Friends” show?

  1. Does this website just steal all its content off various message boards? I posted this over on viachicago.org about a week ago after I stole it off the phishhook msg board. But I did come up with the Philco moniker, my post over there is much more entertaining than this boring one (see for yourself: http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=33288), and I believe I should be entitled to some percentage of your advertising revenue. How does 100% sound? Great, thanks.

  2. JW Harding…you’ve got a lot to learn about the internet. And being cool. Time for you to go back to school…perhaps you’d like to enroll at STFU!?
