Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Marco at the World Cafe

You may know Jake Krolick from many of the fascinating articles, stunning photos and beautiful illustrations he’s made for Glide and our many competitors. Now Jake is focusing on mashing up artwork and video for his latest multimedia project. One of the first videos he’s created for his YouTube site comes from the Marco Benevento Trio’s recent performance at World Cafe Live.

Jake’s unique mash-up mixes well-shot video and audio from the show, with a bunch of stirring psychedelic images to create one crazy delicious treat. The clip starts with the Benevento, Barr and Mathis rockin’ Bus Ride before moving on to video of the boys covering MMJ’s Golden and The Zombies’ She’s Not There. Also intertwined in the nine-minute video is footage from Marc Brownstein’s sit-in during Fearless, and a couple of minutes of the original Atari. Check it out, and be sure to take a look at Jake’s other mesmerizing mash-ups:

  1. the vid’s editing lends it self well to the mashed up experimnentation marco, brad and reed are laying down….or does the music lend it self well to Krolick’s editing style?
either way, interesting, fun and wierd. Just like I like it.

  2. Goff and company – I’ve been writing, shooting, and well just experimenting with rock journalism over the last 5 years. Video is really a wild medium.

The idea behind these mash-ups is two fold – as Eric so kindly said it’s a mash-up of music and images. It’s also done in the speed that a review should be turned around in under a week of the shows end.

Obviously my production quality and camera work are to still be desired, but I use a very basic camera style camcorder small enoug to not annoy the fans. I am about 8 months into these mash-ups and they only have improved. One can only hope to get better with a medium terribly under used for journalism.
