When I was growing up, I used to love watching the Grammys each year. The event’s producers always got big names to show up and my taste in music was much more commercial at that young age. Over the past 10 years or so I still have watched the ceremonies, but they’ve gotten worse with each passing year. Last night’s event was a bit of a return to the Grammy glory days. Paul McCartney with Dave Grohl was sick, Radiohead with the USC Marching Band was sicker and you’ve gotta appreciate a ceremony where both Krauss/Plant and Zappa Plays Zappa pick up awards.

Now, last night’s show wasn’t perfect – Coldplay didn’t do it for me and Jeff Waful just reminded me that LeRoi Moore wasn’t honored during the annual montage to recording industry greats that have passed since last year’s ceremony (“if it was simply an oversight, it’s even more odd since The Staples Center is the very same venue that DMB played the night of LeRoi’s death and announced his passing” – Waful) – but it was 17x better than the past ten Grammys put together. Jambands has more on 2009’s jamtastic Grammy winners and Jambase has a full list of winners.
Here’s a look at what’s happening elsewhere this Monday evening…
- Bob Weir wins the award for best name of a Dead side project
- Prefix hooks up photos of Galactic rocking The Vic in Chicago
- Pearl Jam plans to put out their ninth studio album by themselves
- The cast of Office Space reunites to celebrate the 10th anniversary
- We’d like to guess Robbie Williams as the answer to KB’s question
- Jamaica regulators ban explicit music and video on the airwaves
Finally, the blogger behind Inspiration, Move Me Brightly is pissed off and he’s not going to take it anymore. He’s been putting up a number of Dead shows for download and blogging about it without getting much of a response. It seems Deadheads are downloading the shows and not taking the time to thank him, so he’s not going to do it anymore. ::timestamp::
