A little over a year ago, I introduced you to the musical stylings and the rather sad story of Elvis Perkins – whose somber debut Ash Wednesday was one of my Top Ten of ’07. The singer-songwriter, who has been touring with his band In Dearland, recently put out their sophomore self-titled effort – Elvis Perkins in Dearland
– which sounds more indicative of what they do live, lots of upbeat folkie numbers littered with banjos, muted horns, harmonica, bass drums, quirky rhythms and Perkins thought-provoking lyrics.
Elvis Perkins In Dearland recently kicked off a world tour last week at SXSW which finds them stopping by a sold out Bowery Ballroom tonight, before heading across the pond for handful of dates and then returning to the States for the official North American leg.
