God Street Wednesday: Jimmy Herring

Back in 1994, God Street Wine performed at the Fox Theatre in Boulder and invited ARU guitarist Jimmy Herring out to join them for the Goodnight Gretchen that closed the first set. Herring didn’t disappoint, delivering one blistering lick after another in quick succession.

God Street Wine’s complete first set, including a fun cover of Boogie Nights, smokes, but the Jimmy Herring sit-in stands out as the clear highlight. You can download the first set through the Live Music Archive or  the one track with Jimmy here. Thanks to MuleMan2 for the upload.

  1. This was actually a headlining gig for GSW at the Fox…I don’t quite remember why Jimmy was in town, but remember him and his guitar tech hanging out at the show.

The 2nd set of this show (a tape that I could not find) included the Beatles I Dig a Pony > I Got a Feeling….Jimmy also sat in on the I Got a Feeling.

It was a really fun night!

  2. What a great show! Unfortunately, I lived in Atlanta for the years GSW was active so they only made it my way maybe twice at max. I’m glad I got to see them when I did but man, I would’ve loved to see some of those magical shows.

  3. PS – Scott, I’d be interested in authoring a column, how can I get in touch with you? You should have my email on file here…
