Friday For Foodies: Ninth Ave. Food Fest

While Jon Hochstat enjoys The City of Lights this week, I thought I’d chime in about one of my favorite food-related events of year – The Ninth Avenue Food Festival. On Saturday and Sunday, Ninth Avenue between 37th and 57th will be closed to drivers and open to over one million hungry New Yorkers for a food festival featuring all sorts of different dishes from the amazing eateries and food vendors that operate on those blocks in the famous Hell’s Kitchen district as well as plenty of traditional street fair fare.

[Don’t worry, it’s totally not this crowded these days]

Most street fairs in NYC feature the same vendors peddling the same shit block after block but even though the Ninth Avenue Food Festival isn’t the multi-cultural smorgasbord of gastric delights it used to be there are still some amazing eats to be had. Try the Prosciutto/Fresh Mozzarella sandwich from outside of the Wine Bar on 51st or anything from Amy’s Breads or the slider (make sure you get one out of the oven) from Mitchel London or a pie from the Little Pie Company, just don’t forget to leave room for all of the seafood you’ll encounter towards the southern end of the route. The possibilities are endless, which is why I’m going both days.

This festie goes down rain or shine from 9:30AM until 6PM tomorrow and Sunday. Take the A or C subway lines to Penn Station or Columbus Circle  to be dropped off a block from the start of the route without having to deal with the clogged streets that surround the festival. See ya there.
