Last Week’s Sauce: May 24th – 30th

Artist & Title: Gov’t Mule – Sco-Mule
Date & Venue: 2009-05-30 – Mountain Jam, Hunter NY
Taper & Show Download: Rob Clarke

Mountain Jam was this past weekend and what I viewed via the iClips Premium Broadcast, everything sounded and looked fantastic. Gov’t Mule welcomed keyboardist extraordinaire John Medeski to add some flavor to one of their instrumentals. Sco-Mule is frequently selected for setlists when welcoming additional musicians to the stage. Mule plays Thursday at Wakarusa, Friday at Wannee Music Festival and June 13th at Bonnaroo.

Artist & Title: Phish – The Ballad Of Curtis Loew, You Enjoy Myself
Date & Venue: 2009-05-31 – Fenway Park, Boston MA
Taper & Show Download: Dave Flaschner

Not only am I abandoning the new bands every week philosophy, I’m once again fudging the dates to my advantage. The Fenway Park show misses the cutoff by one day, but I’ve been patiently waiting for the first time I could include Phish in this new weekly piece, and I’ve waited long enough. I have chosen this killer 1-2 punch of a ridiculous bustout and a dependable live staple. Phish plays tomorrow and Friday in Jones Beach Theater.

Artist & Title: Umphrey’s McGee- Turn & Run > Cemetery Walk II
Date & Venue: 2009-05-29 – Mountain Jam, Hunter NY
Taper & Show Download: Rob Clarke

Closing out this week’s edition we have another tape pulled by Rob Clarke from Mountain Jam. Umphrey’s McGee packed their set with songs from their new album Mantis and also welcomed Warren Haynes to the stage to close out their set with a rocking version of Can’t You Hear Me Knocking. The selections featured are both tunes off of the new album. UM plays Friday at Wannee Music Festival and Saturday at BamaJam.
