Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Another Side Of The Strokes

With The Strokes on hiatus over the last few years – though the group is rumored to be currently working on a new album despite recent reports of creative differences – the members of the downtown rock act have kept busy with their new found free time forming side-projects and putting out a number of excellent albums on their own.  We’re particularly fond of Little Joy’s self-titled effort. While one may have looked to Julian Casablancas, it was Albert, Fab and Nikolai striking first with the band’s frontman biding his time and watching patiently from the sidelines.

Well, today brings us the release of Julian’s debut record Phrazes For The Young – whose title was cribbed from an Oscar Wilde essay – and may surprise longtime fans of his full-time band with its synth-y sounds. Last week, The Strokes frontman stopped by the Tonight Show for his solo network television debut to perform the album’s first single 11th Dimension…

Julian kicks off his month long residency at LA’s Downtown Palace Theatre on November 6, which will be followed by an 11-date European tour.
