Friday Mix Tape: Even The Losers

In the early days of the genre, rock musicians and fans were considered outcasts from society. Since the late ’50s rock and roll has become part of the mainstream, yet many tunes speak to those who don’t exactly fit in with the norms. For this week’s Friday Mix Tape, we take a look at six tunes that speak to the “losers” of folks who have lost in love, life and beyond.

We kick things off with the ultimate loser song – Beck’s breakthrough hit Loser off of Mellow Gold. Next, we’ve got Lost from Jimmy Herring’s underrated Lifeboat album. Then, chanteuse Marianne Faithfull covers The Beatles’ I’m A Loser off of the A Stranger On Earth compilation. After that, we turn to the ’90s for Nearly Lost You from the Screaming Trees off the Singles soundtrack. We continue with Keller Williams’ Lost from his ODD LP. Finally, our last track comes from Cracker with their version of the Garcia/Hunter classic Loser from Kerosene Hat.
