Phish Charleston Setlist: Night Two

Phish put it all together in North Charleston for the second of two shows at the North Charleston Coliseum in South Carolina last night. There were plenty of jams, rarities and energy from a two-set smoker that just wouldn’t quit.

The show started with a pair of tour debuts – Kill Devil Falls and Guelah Papyrus – before the first Curtain With of 2010 rang out. Unlike most of the other opening stanzas from this tour, Phish worked a number of “jam” tunes into last night’s first set including the aforementioned Curtain With, a blazing Sand, the funky Sneakin’ Sally and another 2010 debut – Pebbles and Marbles.

Set Two got off to an amazing start with a cover of the Talking Heads’ Crosseyed & Painless that saw the quartet explore multiple jam spaces over the course of 15 minutes. Dirt brought things down for a few moments before Fluffhead picked things right back up. 2001 kept the energy high leading into an intense, groove-based Tweezer that ranks among the best jams of the tour thus far. Show of Life filled the ballad slot and a unique version of You Enjoy Myself – one that relied more on group improvisation than Trey shredding – closed what arguably could be called the best set of the tour.

As if the Phish fans who attended the Charleston shows weren’t hooked up enough, the quartet delivered a fun three-song encore that included the first I Been Around in nearly a year, another funky rendition of Quinn The Eskimo and a Tweezer Reprise that threatened to tear the roof off the sucka. Phish Fall Tour 2010 moves to the Northeast for Tuesday’s show at the Augusta Civic Center in Maine.
