VIDEO PREMIERE: The Sheepdogs Share NSFW Video For “Bad Lieutenant”

Let’s be honest – the world needs more guitar rock. Luckily for us, Canadian quartet The Sheepdogs are doing a damn fine job at bringing guitar rock to the world. The band’s fifth album is titled Future Nostalgia (Dine Alone Records), an appropriate name given the fact that their music is steeped in the classic and psychedelic rock of the 70’s but also feels like a blast of fresh sounds in a musical landscape in desperate need of (good) bands capable of writing punchy rock and roll tunes. Since its release in October 2015, Future Nostalgia has received praise from critics and fans alike, and one of the standout songs on the album is “Bad Lieutenant”, an ominous rocker that brings to mind contemporaries like the Black Keys.

Recently the band teamed up with director Michael Maxxis to create a video for the song and today we are excited to premiere that video right here on Glide Magazine. The video is actually more of a short film that brings to life the darker elements of the song in its portrayal of dirty cops making unethical decisions in a world of sex, drugs and violence.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the video and the song, guitarist and vocalist Ewan Currie says, “‘Bad Lieutenant’ is the story of a bad, bad man who hides his evil by wearing a disguise. It’s the juxtaposition of good and evil as personified by the Bad Lieutenant movies: both Abel Ferrara’s original starring Harvey Keitel and Werner Herzog’s update featuring Nicolas Cage. We turned it over to director [Michael] Maxxis, who brings to life this dark story about the evil that men do.”
