‘Luke Cage’ Likes It Raw in First Full-Length Trailer From Comic Con

The next chapter in Marvel and Netflix’s Defenders saga, Luke Cage, got its first full trailer tonight at the Comic Con panel in San Diego. The brief trailer revealed little, but did serve to whet appetites ahead of the show’s September 30 premiere on the streaming service.

Following his appearance in last year’s Jessica Jones, the series follows Luke Cage’s one-man mission to combat gang violence in Harlem and Hell’s Kitchen. While there’s no word yet on whether Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica in the series, the trailer makes it clear that this is Luke’s world, and no bad guy is safe from his rampage and vengeance.

Mike Colter returns as the indestructible hero as he looks to set things right with his former gang leader Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali). Though nothing about the plot was revealed in the trailer, we did see some exciting comic book action that stays true to the format established first by Daredevil, eventually leading towards the Avengers-esque team up, The Defenders, in the coming years.

Featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” the trailer seems as though the series will continue Netflix and Marvel’s domination of adult themed comic book action. “I’m just getting started,” Cage says to Cottonmouth, which serves as an implicit promise of bigger and badder things to come from the series when it makes its debut.
